Artist Statement: My final artwork is a circle zine because my concept was about the balance of yin/yang. Each page shows how you cannot have one without the other and that a little of each lives in each other. The first two pages are the duality of night and day. Pages three and four are day and night. Pages five and six are moon and sun. Pages seven and eight are tiger and dragon. Pages nine and ten are soft and hard. Finally, pages eleven and twelve are masculine and feminine. The back cover is a quote, written by me, just closing off the zine in a harmonious way. In each duality of pages I decided to put its opposite (so for a page that is describing yin, I put the yang character in it) to represent one cannot exist without the other. What I loved about this piece is I have had this vision of these little yin/yang characters for a while now, but I had no idea how I was going to use them in a project. I went through a lot of trial and error and a lot of exploration of google, Pinterest, and various art surrounding me. I think my overall concept came out well and shines in a unique way. I think the physical copy of my zine could have been more polished if I tried more physical ideas. Next time I would give myself more time to play because the way I truly made my piece was through play.
